“I’ve never been a person who embraced sweat, but this is the place to do it, and it feels great!”

Tracy Fitzwater

I initially began coming to the Fitness Kickboxing at the urging of a friend, and although I went home wondering what had just happened, I went back. I’ve been part of the Fitness Kickboxing class since March, 2016, and I continue to work out weekly. I love the variety this class offers, from working on the heavy bag to circuit training. The fitness benefits are amazing, and I feel stronger every day. The instructors, Phil and Cody, have always been very informative and helpful, so the right technique is used, and participants are able to work at their own pace, while still pushing hard. I’ve never been a person who embraced sweat, but this is the place to do it, and it feels great! As a retired school librarian and teacher, a gym is the last place I ever thought I’d end up spending a lot of time in, but I’ve always felt welcome at 5th Element and honestly feel as though I am part of the 5th Element family. Not every 65 year old woman can say they have their own wraps and boxing gloves – but I do!

Boot Camp, under the direction of Daniel Robbins, was a great introduction to strength training. This was a four-week, 12-session course, and included a warm-up and cool down, and direct instruction in the weight room at 5th Element. As a certified trainer, Daniel knows his stuff, and provided individual attention to all of the participants. I learned a lot, and felt that I made real progress in a short period of time. When Daniel offers another Boot Camp, I’ll be there – great class!

“A big thank you to 5th Element and my teammates for putting together such a successful, life-changing training environment!”

Brad Erickson, age 42 ~ Forks, WA

I initially joined 5th Element in a effort to increase my physical therapy after two major hip reconstructive surgeries that left me, in my 40’s, with decreased strength and mobility and considerable scar tissue and pain.

I have been a huge fan of MMA since it’s inception in the early 90’s but logistics, education, a full-time horseshoeing business and raising a family made it difficult for me to make a commitment to training. When I learned that we had an MMA gym on the Peninsula, I saw it as an opportunity to strengthen my decimated hips through kickboxing and Jiu-Jitsu and a “now or never” chance to learn something that I always wanted to learn. I decided to check it out for a month. What I didn’t know is that I would get caught in a perfect storm of a high-end facility, world class coaching and a dedicated, very cool, team of guys and gals that have created what my wife calls my “mid-life obsession”.

Driving 3 hours round trip, twice a week from Forks, takes a huge toll on our family but we all recognize that 5th Element is well worth the sacrifice and now, the next step is to find a way to get my wife and two children on the mat. A big thank you to 5th Element and my teammates for putting together such a successful, life-changing training environment! I cannot recommend any higher, to come down to the gym and spend an hour to check out the facility, meet the team and coaching staff and find out for yourself.

“This is a great program for kids and teens to meet others while participating in a fun sport!”

Lindsay Merrell Whitney

Isaiah, Sarah and Keeshawn have been attending 5th Element’s Youth MMA program for almost a year. In that year, I can easily say it has changed their lives!!

All three of them have become more outgoing and confident in every aspect of their lives. Being a part of this program has also helped them get in better shape and have more of a drive to improve their skills. Each one of the kids have developed a true love and passion for this sport and want to continue training for many years to come.

This is a great program for kids and teens to meet others while participating in a fun sport!

“I love it and I’m learning a lot.”

Keeshawn Whitney (Kids Program)

5th Element is a good place to work out. They teach boxing, kick boxing, Jiu-Jitsu and pretty much almost all martial arts. I’ve been going to 5th Element for about one year, I love it and I’m learning a lot. Two of the coaches there that I have are Marcus Hanson and Cody Houston. They are really good teachers and I have learned Kick boxing and Jiu-Jitsu with those two coaches. Lately I have been learning new kicks and new submissions at 5th Element like a spinning back kick, Kimora and arm bar from different angles.

5th Element also has MMA fights and some people who go there fight in them like my coach Marcus Hanson. The last fight he was in was a kick boxing tournament. So go to the next fight because they are good fights.

“I really love going because I get a really good workout and I stay in shape.”

Sarah Whitney (Kids Program)

I have been at 5th Element for almost a year. I go with my brothers. We practice kickboxing and jiu- jitsu.
We do a lot of things in kickboxing. We do spinning back kicks, push kicks, we do shadow boxing. And we work on alot of punches on the bags. When we practice it feels like you really are in a fight. You really have to focus. If you get really good you can compete against other people your age.

In Jiu-Jitsu we roll with other people in class. We learn a lot of submissions. Like arm bars and other things. You can also compete against other people in kick boxing.

I really love going because I get a really good workout and I stay in shape. The coaches that I have worked with are Marcus Hanson and Cody Houston. I have learned a lot and I hope that you do too.

“5th Element is a good place to make new friends, workout and learn a skill…”

The teachers at 5th Element are really amazing and teach you many skills like self defense, kickboxing, jiu-jitsu, boxing and MMA.
The facility at 5th Element is very clean and has professional teachers and coaches and has a very friendly owner. The equipment is in good shape which includes cardio and muscle machines, punching bags, a MMA ring and a mat.

Our teacher is Marcus Hanson and he’s a local MMA competitor. 5th Element is a good place to make new friends, workout and learn a skill that can help you and you could defend yourself and this is all made possible by Dave Holden.

“My self-assigned nick name is the ‘old man.’”

I am a 56 year old member of 5th Element Fitness Center. My self-assigned nick name is the ‘old man.’ I joined with the idea of just trying to stay in shape and help prolong the inevitable aging process that affects us all.

What I have discovered is a cool group of professional trainers and a very friendly group of fellow members who have the same goals and aspirations of staying healthy, fit and skilled in the areas of boxing, kickboxing, wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. There is absolutely no pressure to do anything that you are not comfortable doing and at the same time you are patiently taught how to stretch, strengthen and develop skills that build your confidence and pride in your own abilities.

What started out as a change of pace to stay fit and healthy has developed into new friendships and a renewed energy within me. I would highly recommend 5th Element to anyone who is interested in learning physical fitness routines that help strengthen your core while having fun and reaching personal goals that you set for yourself under professional guidance.

The world of MMA training has been an enjoyable experience that has challenged me from within myself with support from all involved and should be experienced by anyone who has the goal of wanting to be physically fit, mentally strong and self-confident.

“I’m proud to say I’m apart of the 5th Element team!”

As an overweight ex-fighter, I wanted to get back into shape. 5th Element gym provides a very respectful, clean, professional environment to help me achieve my goals. The coaching staff is knowledgeable and patient. In my case, I joined the gym with a lot of rust.

Not only are the coaches willing to help, I’ve found that my fellow members play a key role in the learning process! Ego’s are checked at the door and everyone is there to help. I’m proud to say I’m apart of the 5th Element team!

“I definitely recommend this class to any person of any size and experience.”

I joined 5th Element in September. I have known about the gym since it first opened and I had been dying to try out one of their classes. I was nervous, however, because I had never done any type of boxing or martial arts before.
I finally mustered up the courage to attend the Beginners Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class and I am so glad that I did. I realize now that there was no reason to be nervous.

You don’t have to have any experience and the atmosphere is very comfortable. Being a small woman of just 5’1”, Jiu Jitsu is a great way to learn self defense. It’s amazing how leverage and a little technique can be used to defend yourself. And to top it all off, I have met some wonderful people and get a workout to boot.

I definitely recommend this class to any person of any size and experience. I look forward to trying out the women’s kickboxing and other fitness programs that 5th Element has to offer in the future.
